**Toulouse-Blagnac Airport Opens First Public Pharmacy: A New Benchmark for Airport Services**
Since late April, Toulouse-Blagnac Airport has opened a pharmacy in its public zone, accessible 7 days a week from 7am to 9pm. Located on the first floor of Hall C, city-side, it requires no boarding pass, making it available to passengers, airport staff, and local residents alike. This pharmacy, part of the MaxiPharma network, marks a significant step in the airport's strategy to enhance passenger services and address healthcare access challenges in the region.
The pharmacy is designed to meet the concrete needs of travelers. It dispenses chronic and acute medications on prescription, and its team of pharmacists and assistants, fluent in English and Spanish, can handle foreign prescriptions—a crucial feature given that international traffic now accounts for 60% of the airport's operations. Beyond standard prescriptions, the pharmacy offers travel health advice, including vaccinations, preventive treatments (e.g., malaria, traveler's diarrhea), and health recommendations tailored to destinations. Toulouse-Blagnac connects to 84 destinations and 16 major international hubs, making this service particularly valuable.
A dedicated range of products adapted to air travel is available: cabin-compliant liquid, gel, and aerosol formats, ear pressure filters, compression socks, cervical pillows, reading and sunglasses, as well as orthopedic and compression products. These items help improve in-flight comfort and prevent risks associated with prolonged immobility, such as circulatory issues and neck pain. The pharmacy also features a Médadom teleconsultation booth, allowing patients to consult a doctor without an appointment, linked to the Doctolib platform. After a teleconsultation and rapid on-site test, prescriptions for common conditions like cystitis or strep throat can be issued. Vaccinations and preventive care are also offered.
For the airport's thousands of employees and nearby residents, the pharmacy provides a convenient healthcare option with extended hours and free parking. In a region where medical deserts and after-hours pharmacy access are growing concerns, this facility complements existing services without replacing them. It reflects a broader European trend of integrating health services into transport hubs, such as airports and major train stations.
Bruno Balerdi, commercial director of Toulouse-Blagnac Airport, stated: "The opening of this pharmacy was highly anticipated by our passengers, staff, and local residents. It provides a concrete response with exceptional hours and immediately accessible health services." Pharmacist Matthieu Ruiz added: "An airport pharmacy is not just a point of sale: it's a place where you can manage a health issue at any time of day."
