TAP Air Portugal has integrated Airbnb into its TAP Miles&Go loyalty program, allowing its over 9 million members to earn 2 miles for every euro spent on eligible stays and experiences booked through a dedicated page. This move is part of TAP's broader strategy to diversify earning opportunities beyond flights, responding to intense competition from other European carriers and hotel groups that are expanding their own loyalty ecosystems.
The process is strictly defined: members must first visit TAP's website at flytap.com/airbnb, log into their TAP Miles&Go account, and then be redirected to Airbnb to complete the booking. Cookies must be enabled, and the reservation must occur within ten days of accessing the TAP page. Miles are calculated on the initial booking amount, excluding taxes, fees, and discounts, and are credited within a maximum of 60 days after the stay's departure. Once credited, miles cannot be canceled.
For TAP, this partnership is a logical extension of its loyalty program, which already allows earning miles on TAP and TAP Express flights, as well as on Star Alliance partners and various ground services. Miles can be redeemed for award tickets, upgrades, and ancillary services like lounge access, seats, and baggage. The airline's Chief Customer Officer, Sofia Lufinha, emphasized the goal of offering more opportunities to earn and use miles, while Airbnb's Managing Director for Spain and Portugal, Jaime Rodríguez de Santiago, highlighted the shared vision of connecting travelers with inspiring destinations.
The timing is significant: Airbnb reports that international bookings by Portuguese travelers grew 28% this summer, with Madrid, London, Seville, and Paris as top destinations. In Portugal, 87% of Airbnb arrivals in 2025 were international travelers, underscoring the country's role in European tourism. This partnership taps into that momentum, allowing travelers to earn miles on accommodation and experiences, a shift from the traditional flight-centric loyalty model.
For aviation training students, this development illustrates the evolving nature of airline loyalty programs, which are increasingly becoming lifestyle ecosystems. Understanding these partnerships is crucial for future aviation professionals, as they affect customer retention strategies, revenue management, and the competitive landscape. TAP Miles&Go's expansion, including its subscription Club and lifetime status levels, shows how airlines are adapting to changing traveler behaviors and expectations.
