Lionel Rabiet has been re-elected as president of Entreprises du Voyage (EdV) Île-de-France, the union representing tourism professionals in the Paris region. This renewal confirms his central role in shaping the future of high-end travel. Rabiet, founder of the tour operator Voyages d'Exception in 2012, advocates for a demanding vision where culture, comfort, and discovery are paramount. Before entering tourism, he trained as an engineer at the École des Mines and built a career in strategy consulting and media, notably at Le Figaro. This dual background—analytical and editorial—enables him to craft highly scripted travel experiences where the story matters as much as the destination. "I am drawn to creating complete experiences, from the first intention to the memory of the trip," he says.
Rabiet has become a vocal advocate for sector transformation. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he argued that professionals must rediscover their "raison d'être" around trust, safety, and social and environmental responsibility. "This crisis accelerated years of transition," he notes, believing agencies and tour operators are called to become agents of a more responsible tourism industry. His re-election solidifies a leader who sees himself both as a niche entrepreneur and a community organizer. "I will remain a great promoter of cruises," he emphasizes, while pushing for clearer, more qualitative, sustainable, and culture-oriented tourism.
Voyages d'Exception has carved a niche in high-end cultural cruises and trips. The operator offers maritime and river cruises, stays, and itineraries on iconic trains, with a clear promise: francophone journeys blending comfort and rigor for a culturally curious audience. Rabiet positions the brand as high-end yet accessible in spirit. "What makes us unique is that we have lecturers on every trip," he highlights. The company charters ships and selects high-standing hotels in partnership with recognized players to ensure comfort and service quality. "Our francophone escorts and guides are with clients from day one to the last, excursions are guaranteed in French, and services are high-end," he explains.
The cultural dimension is central. Voyages d'Exception relies on a network of lecturers—journalists, historians, naturalists, musicians—who are true specialists in culture and transmission. They accompany itineraries across five continents, deliver onboard lectures, and enrich each stop. "We don't just sell a cruise; we propose a story," Rabiet summarizes. Each cruise, tour, or iconic train journey is designed as a complete cultural experience, built around lectures and discovery moments. "Intellectual enrichment is a fundamental pillar of the travel experience," reads the 2027 brochure, highlighting the key role of lecturers in knowledge transmission.
The catalog features personalities like art historian Serge Legat, historian David Chanteranne, and geopolitician Pascal Boniface. Alongside them are authors, academics, diplomats, and naturalists, making each trip a living culture and deep discovery experience. This approach spans a wide range of themes: cultural cruises, artistic circuits, musical journeys, and nature-focused itineraries. Musical cruises on the Danube or Rhine illustrate this blend of culture, lectures, and discovery. In Japan, cruises combine deep cultural exploration with high-end comfort, exploring both major cities and more confidential ports. Accompanied by lecturers and francophone guides, these trips offer unique immersion in Japanese culture, between ancient traditions and modernity. "Our lecturers are not just francophone guides; they are bridges between cultures and eras," Rabiet concludes, convinced that the alliance of culture, comfort, and discovery is a key lever in the high-end travel market.
