As the spring break season approaches, the French are confirming their preference for sunny destinations and medium-haul flights. According to the Observatory of French Vacations, a platform that tracks travel trends, bookings for the spring break period (April 4 to May 3) are up 3% in terms of the number of files and 5% in terms of sales volume compared to 2025. The average basket size has also increased by around 2% to 2,192 euros, indicating a slight rise in spending per trip. This trend is attributed to the growing demand for more qualified travel, with travelers paying closer attention to their budget and the quality of services. The medium-haul sector is driving this growth, with a 9% increase in sales volume and a 7% rise in the number of bookings. The long-haul sector is also showing positive growth, with a 2% increase in sales volume and bookings. In contrast, metropolitan France is experiencing a decline in bookings, with a 3% drop in the number of files and a 5% decrease in sales volume. The top 20 destinations for spring break 2026 confirm the French preference for the Mediterranean region and sunny destinations. While France and Spain remain at the top of the list, albeit with a slight decline, Albania is experiencing a significant surge in popularity, with a 256% increase in bookings. The most booked cities for spring break include Paris, Heraklion, Palma de Mallorca, Tenerife, and Malaga, with a notable increase in bookings for these destinations. The need for accompaniment and security is also driving the growth of travel agencies, as travelers seek guidance on safer destinations. The progress made in the Canary Islands and the Dominican Republic illustrates a subtle balance between the desire for sun, budget control, and safety. Families and couples are at the heart of spring break travel, accounting for 41% and 42% of bookings, respectively. While families are maintaining a stable volume of bookings, they are slightly increasing their budget. Couples, on the other hand, are experiencing a small increase in bookings and a moderate rise in average spending.
