**Emirates SkyCargo is significantly expanding its freight operations across East and Southeast Asia**, responding to sustained demand driven by e-commerce, industrial exports, and shifting global supply chains. The Dubai-based cargo carrier has increased flight frequencies and added new routes to better connect Asian manufacturing hubs with international markets.
**Over the past fiscal year (2025/2026), Emirates SkyCargo transported more than 439,000 tonnes of cargo from 12 East and Southeast Asian markets**, a 5% increase year-on-year. Growth is particularly strong in high-tech goods, perishables, and e-commerce parcels. Badr Abbas, Senior Vice President of Emirates SkyCargo, stated: "East and Southeast Asia are pillars of global production—whether for technology goods, perishables, or e-commerce flows. By strengthening our cargo network, we offer exporters fast, reliable connectivity to world markets." Weekly capacity now exceeds 12,000 tonnes across the carrier's global network, combining dedicated freighter flights and belly cargo on passenger aircraft.
**Key operational adjustments include doubling weekly freighter flights to Tokyo Narita** (from one to two) to support automotive, electronics, and pharmaceutical exports; increasing Hong Kong services to 37 weekly cargo flights, cementing its role as a regional hub; launching three weekly flights to Zhengzhou in central China, linking a key industrial zone to Dubai; resuming a weekly cargo rotation to Singapore via Mumbai; doubling Taipei services driven by electronics component demand; maintaining one weekly flight to Bangkok for tech and perishable goods; and keeping four weekly rotations to Hanoi, primarily for Middle Eastern flows.
**Beyond dedicated freighters, Emirates leverages belly capacity on over 320 weekly passenger flights across the region**, offering flexible, high-frequency options for shippers. This hybrid model—combining cargo aircraft and passenger-hold capacity—has become an industry standard since the pandemic disrupted traditional airfreight balances. The carrier's dedicated freighter fleet includes 16 Boeing 777Fs, 6 Boeing 747Fs, and two Boeing 777-300ER/SF conversions.
**For ATPL and ATC students, this expansion illustrates how air cargo operations are evolving**—with increasing reliance on integrated networks that blend scheduled passenger services with dedicated freighters. Understanding belly cargo logistics, route planning, and the impact of e-commerce on capacity demand is now essential for future pilots and controllers. Emirates will also showcase its specialized products—Emirates Vulnerable (high-value electronics), Emirates Fresh (perishables), Emirates Pharma (medicines and vaccines), and Emirates Vital (clinical trials)—at Air Cargo China 2026 in Shanghai (June 24–26).
