easyJet has announced a significant expansion of its French network for the winter 2026 season, adding nine new routes from Bordeaux, Nantes, Nice, Lyon, and Paris-Charles-de-Gaulle. The low-cost carrier is reinforcing its presence in the French market with a focus on leisure destinations, city breaks, and improved domestic connectivity. Several of these routes are exclusive to easyJet, including services from Bordeaux to Gran Canaria, Nantes to Essaouira and Brussels, and Nice to Cairo via the Sphinx International Airport.
From Bordeaux-Mérignac, easyJet will operate three new routes: Agadir (Morocco) with two weekly flights from October 25, 2026, starting at €50 one-way; Malaga (Spain) with two weekly flights from October 26, 2026, from €35; and Gran Canaria (Canary Islands) with two weekly flights from October 28, 2026, from €40. The Gran Canaria service is exclusive to easyJet. Nantes-Atlantique gains two exclusive routes: Essaouira (Morocco) with two weekly flights from October 27, 2026, from €50, and Brussels-Zaventem with two weekly flights from October 26, 2026, from €35. The Brussels route offers a flight time of 1h30 compared to over five hours by road or rail, appealing to both business and leisure travelers.
A key highlight is the introduction of flights to Cairo via Sphinx International Airport (SPX), located west of the city near the Giza plateau and the Grand Egyptian Museum. Nice-Côte d'Azur will operate two weekly flights to Cairo-Sphinx from October 27, 2026, starting at €75 one-way, marking the first direct connection between Nice and Cairo. Additionally, Nice will gain a domestic route to Lyon-Saint-Exupéry with two weekly flights from October 26, 2026, from €40, reducing travel time to about one hour versus nearly four hours by land. Lyon will also offer the reverse route to Nice with the same schedule and pricing.
From Paris-Charles-de-Gaulle, easyJet will launch two new routes: Cairo-Sphinx with two weekly flights from September 2, 2026, from €85, and Southampton (UK) with two weekly flights from October 25, 2026, from €50. Southampton, a major cruise port, provides access to Stonehenge, Winchester Cathedral, the New Forest, and the Isle of Wight, with London less than two hours away. These additions complement easyJet's existing Egyptian network, which includes Sharm el-Sheikh, Hurghada, and Luxor, and reflect the airline's strategy to expand its presence in Egypt and enhance connectivity for French travelers.
For ATPL and ATC students, this expansion illustrates how low-cost carriers plan seasonal networks based on demand, aircraft utilization, and airport slot availability. Understanding such route development helps in anticipating traffic flows, airspace demand, and operational challenges, particularly at secondary airports like Sphinx, which may have different infrastructure and procedures compared to major hubs.
