British Airways has unveiled a complete cabin redesign across its fleet of twelve Airbus A380 aircraft. The retrofit reduces total capacity from 469 to 417 passengers, removing 52 seats while raising the proportion of premium accommodation to nearly half the cabin.

The entire upper deck will now be assigned to business class, featuring 106 Club Suites arranged across four zones, up from the current 97 seats. Each suite offers direct aisle access, a lie-flat bed, and a privacy door. The main deck will house a redesigned First cabin reduced from 14 to 12 suites, equipped with two-metre beds, 32-inch 4K monitors, and 1.52-metre partitions.

Downstairs, World Traveller Plus expands significantly from 55 to 84 premium economy seats, whereas standard economy drops from 303 to 215 seats. The extensive refit incorporates over 35,000 parts per airframe, including redesigned galleys and updated stairways. The initial retrofitted aircraft is scheduled to resume revenue flights in the coming months.

This fleet investment confirms the extended service life of the British flag carrier's four-engine widebodies. The programme bridges an operational gap created by repeated delays to the Boeing 777-9, for which British Airways placed orders for 18 units in 2019, with manufacturer deliveries now pushed back to 2027.
