Air Uniqon, in partnership with German airline Avanti Air, will introduce a new seasonal route between Berlin and Sylt starting July 2, 2026. This direct air link will reduce travel time to just 60 minutes, compared to the six to seven hours required by train via Hamburg. This service is part of a strategic initiative to connect regional airports through point-to-point flights, showcasing the niche market focus of this emerging virtual airline.
The new flights will operate twice weekly from Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) to Sylt Airport (GWT) until October 5, 2026. Scheduled for Mondays and Thursdays, the flight times are designed to maximize short stays on the island, particularly during long weekends. Air Uniqon emphasizes the convenience of air travel, significantly cutting down the time it takes to reach this popular North Sea resort.
In addition to the new Sylt route, Air Uniqon is enhancing its existing service between Friedrichshafen and Berlin, which was reestablished in January 2026 after a decade-long hiatus. With the introduction of Sylt, the frequency of flights between Friedrichshafen (FDH) and BER will increase to four days a week—Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday—catering primarily to business travelers while also accommodating growing leisure demand during the summer months.
Operating under a virtual airline model, Air Uniqon does not hold its own Air Operator Certificate (AOC). Instead, it relies on Avanti Air, based in Siegerland, to operate its flights using the de Havilland Canada Dash 8-400 turboprop aircraft. These planes, configured for 78 seats, strike a balance between capacity suited for niche markets and cost-effective operations for short to medium distances.
Founded in February 2025, Air Uniqon began commercial operations in January 2026, focusing on carefully selected domestic routes that have been overlooked by larger carriers. The company aims to effectively reconnect economic and tourist regions that previously lacked direct air service, maintaining agility through its virtual model. As a popular beach destination, Sylt is known for its sandy beaches and upscale resorts, making this new service a valuable addition to the travel options available to residents and visitors alike.
