Air Europa tests operational efficiency on 787 and 737 MAX flights
Air Europa introduces flight profile optimization, OptiClimb procedures, and recurrent pilot training on efficiency during SkyTeam's The Aviation Challenge.
Air Europa is participating in the fifth edition of SkyTeam’s The Aviation Challenge (TAC) with two dedicated test flights: a long-haul leg between Madrid and Salvador de Bahía operated with a Boeing 787 Dreamliner on the 22nd, and a medium-haul service linking Madrid to Amsterdam using a Boeing 737 MAX.
To reduce fuel burn and emissions, the carrier deployed sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), optimized routing, refined fuel loading planning, and utilized the OptiClimb application to minimize consumption during the climb phase. On the ground, the airline scheduled electric vehicles, removed single-use items, and implemented the Waste360 initiative alongside a cabin component refurbishment program with AIRE Cabin Solutions.
Operationally, Air Europa has integrated an Operational Efficiency module into its recurrent pilot training curriculum to foster fuel-conscious decision-making during flight operations. The airline also launched the Equipaje Ligero initiative rewarding lighter passenger baggage and partnered with NGO TETO Brasil to support emergency housing in Salvador de Bahía.
Why it matters for your training
Flight profile management and OptiClimb usage directly affect cockpit energy management, while dedicated recurrent training modules embed efficiency standards into crew line operations.
