Skyalps is set to assume scheduled operations linking Klagenfurt Airport and Hamburg Airport beginning 17 December 2026. The carrier succeeds Austrian Airlines, which had maintained a single weekly rotation on the sector throughout previous winter seasons.

Under the revised winter timetable, Skyalps will operate two weekly rotations, scheduling departures on Thursdays and Sundays. The service will be performed using 76-seat Dash 8-Q400 turboprops. Transitioning from previously deployed jet operations to regional turboprop capacity allows the airline to increase flight frequency while managing overall seat capacity in line with seasonal demand.

The route primarily targets city travellers alongside winter tourism in Carinthia, where northern German visitors accounted for approximately 94,000 overnight stays during the prior winter period. Klagenfurt Airport continues to navigate broader operational and economic challenges regarding year-round load factors and commercial sustainability outside summer and winter peak seasons.

Why it matters for an ATPL pilot: It illustrates regional capacity management, where operating regional turboprops like the Dash 8-Q400 provides route viability and frequency flexibility over mainline jets.
