Australian carrier Regional Express, commonly known as Rex, will eliminate two scheduled regional links from its network out of Sydney at the start of the Northern winter 2026/27 season.
According to operational updates for the carrier, the company will no longer operate flights between Sydney and Orange, nor will it continue services connecting Sydney to Port Macquarie. Both domestic services are scheduled to be withdrawn simultaneously from late-October 2026.
As detailed in the airline's scheduling adjustments, the services that will cease from 25OCT26 are:
- The service between Sydney and Orange, which is currently scheduled at a frequency of 18 weekly flights operated with Saab 340 equipment.
- The service between Sydney and Port Macquarie, which also represents an operation of 18 weekly flights using Saab 340 turboprops.
Following these cancellations at the opening of the Northern winter 2026/27 period, neither destination will be offered by Regional Express from Sydney.
Why it matters for your training
Route closures on regional turboprop operations directly alter pilot scheduling patterns, crew rostering, and regional fleet utilization.
