Lufthansa has parted ways with another Airbus A340-600 as the airline continues to scale down the fleet of this widebody quadjet. The aircraft, which is nearly 25 years old, carries the registration D-AIFF and bears the christened name Delmenhorst.

It completed its final scheduled commercial service on 19 September, operating as flight LH519 from San Jose to Frankfurt. Following that service, the jet was ferried to Düsseldorf on 1 October. From there, it departed on 7 October to reach Teruel in Spain.

With the transfer of this aircraft, only four A340-600 airframes now belong to the carrier's fleet. These last four aircraft are also scheduled to be retired and removed from active operational service with Lufthansa during the course of this same month.

Why it matters for your training

The retirement of quadjets impacts fleet planning, type rating utility, and transition training pathways for long-haul crews.
