Red Sea International Airport (RSI) has received its inaugural scheduled flight operated by Etihad Airways from Zayed International Airport (AUH) in Abu Dhabi. This new commercial link operates on a year-round basis, connecting the Saudi destination directly to the United Arab Emirates and Etihad's broader hub network.

Operated by daa International, RSI is expanding its scheduled destination portfolio under initiatives led by the Saudi Air Connectivity Program and the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA). The platform currently maintains scheduled passenger operations linking the Red Sea region with domestic points in Riyadh and Jeddah, as well as international connections to Dubai, Doha, and Milan.

The airport infrastructure, situated 90 kilometres south of Al Wajh, serves the regional developments of the Red Sea and AMAALA. Facilities at the gateway are designed to handle an annual capacity of one million passengers.

Why it matters for your training

For flight crews and airline planners, the addition of scheduled regional services into emerging Middle Eastern gateways highlights shifting air traffic flows and expanding route structures.
