Emirates SkyCargo has reached key milestones in transporting temperature-sensitive and time-critical medical supplies, having processed over one million pharmaceutical shipments through its Dubai hub. Since the formal rollout of the Emirates Pharma product and the opening of its Good Distribution Practice (GDP) certified facility in September 2016, total volume has exceeded 800,000 tonnes across six continents, connecting manufacturers, healthcare providers, and patients.

The logistics network reflects a decade of continuous investment across Dubai International (DXB) and Dubai World Central (DWC). Together, both airports provide more than 16,500 square metres of GDP-certified cargo handling and dedicated storage space designed to safeguard unbroken temperature management.

To protect shipments during apron operations, the air freight operator utilizes a dedicated fleet exceeding 55 Cool Dollies. These specialized mobile, temperature-controlled containers maintain required conditions while transferring cargo between aircraft holds and airport terminals, or during rapid aircraft-to-aircraft ramp transits. Overall, Emirates SkyCargo transports between 1.5 and 2 million kilograms of pharmaceutical freight on its scheduled flights each week.

Why it matters for your training

Why it matters for an ATPL pilot: managing temperature-sensitive cargo requires strict crew monitoring of cargo hold environmental controls and understanding apron transfer limitations during turnarounds.
