Air New Zealand is increasing capacity between Auckland Airport and Shanghai Pudong International Airport for the 2027 Chinese New Year travel period. Between January 23 and February 20, 2027, the carrier will add three weekly return flights, lifting the route's total frequency to ten services per week and offering more than 7,000 extra seats.

Chief Commercial Officer Scott Wilkinson stated that these additions target peak holiday demand during the New Zealand summer. The extra rotations will support inbound passenger traffic connecting to the airline's domestic network, as well as outbound travelers heading to China. The expansion also provides more belly cargo capacity for New Zealand exporters shipping goods to China.

Alongside these extra services, Air New Zealand’s partnership with Air China allows the two carriers to operate up to 24 weekly flights between New Zealand and China across Beijing and Shanghai at peak times. This alliance also grants passengers access to more than 30 destinations across Air China's domestic route network.
